Renewable Energy

A Critical Infrastructure Investment For the United States Energy supply is the transportation of fuel or transformed fuels to the final destination of use. It potentially encompasses the generation, transmission, production, distribution, and storage of energy. It can also be described as energy flow. The transport of energy is an ever-moving process. It implies that energy is never in a vacuum, but always in motion. If the process of transportation of energy were reversed, then there would be no energy, because it would have to start from a source.

A clean energy supply implies energy that has no harmful byproducts. The energy source is clean because it does not produce pollutants or waste products during its generation, transportation, and distribution. There is a movement afoot today for a “clean energy supply”, a non-polluting energy supply.

The need for a “clean energy supply” is highlighted by the alarming consequences of the pollution of our environment. The earth has been affected by natural disasters, man’s negligence, and the misuse of our sources. A major portion of the earth’s nonrenewable resources is used in the production of electricity, heat, and lighting. An increasing number of industries and individuals are making the switch to clean energy sources to reduce their carbon footprint.

Sources of nonrenewable energy are limited

Coal, which is considered to be a primary source of nonrenewable energy, is beginning to feel the effects of global warming. The Earth has experienced four different global warming events within the last 100 years. Some experts believe that we are in the early stages of a fifth and final event. Since the Earth continually tries to cool off, there is a constant attempt to mine coal and burn it to generate electricity and heat.

An emerging renewable energy source

is based on the principles of photovoltaic cells (PV). A PV system converts energy from sunlight into electricity. This technology is becoming more widespread as solar panel technology improves. Solar cells are designed to convert electromagnetic energy to electrical energy. A PV system is typically installed in homes or businesses. As a renewable energy source, it is considered to be a clean energy source because it does not produce any pollutants.

Changes in energy use are affecting our daily lives.

Increasingly, people are taking responsibility for their energy use. The success of this initiative will depend upon the implementation of a comprehensive energy policy that limits greenhouse gas emissions and promotes energy efficiency. Through the use of renewable energy and fossil fuel reserves, the United States can become one of the world leaders in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. The time has come for citizens to begin considering what they can do to contribute to this important cause.
